ABOUT
Renee Bartkiewicz has over 20 years of practical trauma experience, where an individual feels seen, heard, and understood, and inspired to live the life they deserve. She is both a registered clinical counsellor and art therapist working to help clients self-actualize their potential for resilience and possibility. It is Renee’s goal to create a strong therapeutic relationship, and her belief that…
“every person is striving towards growth and belonging, and that they already possess the resources and strengths necessary to create the changes they desire.”
Renee specializes in trauma work, and has extensive experience with both male and female survivors of sexual abuse. Trauma can be defined as anything unexpected, that one is unable to prepare for, and cope with and may include any of the following experiences:
From an artist’s perspective she utilizes creativity to facilitate self-exploration and understanding.
“The results (from trauma) can be a profound disconnection from self and other, a feeling that the world is not safe, and the creation of protective defenses that may help initially, but ultimately hold you hostage. These difficult emotions, thoughts and repetitive patterns in our lives are almost always rooted in adverse experiences we’ve survived, but haven’t fully processed. “
“We often can’t think our way out of these dilemmas, no matter how hard we try. This only creates more anxiety and disconnection. The way out is to reconnect to our emotions and bodies and feel our way back, in a practice that is both titrated, resourced, and balanced with kindness and validation. “
Her work with clients is collaborative, holistic, and rooted in a feminist, person-centred approach. She advocates a mind body connection that generates client vitality, compassion and self-empowerment.
Renee also works with other issues related to personal empowerment and movement through barriers, such as:
Specific techniques she uses include:
– Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
– Self Regulation Therapy (SRT)
– Adlerian Positive Psychology
In addition to private practice, Renee is actively involved in Vancouver’s non-profit community. She continues to counsel with the BC Society for Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse, as well as the Woman Against Violence program at Burnaby Family Life.
We heal and thrive in relationship, let Renee join you on your journey to self-discovery.
“It’s never too late to rewrite your story.”
